We honor the service of our chapter's Compatriots.


The Genl George Rogers Clark Chapter application was approved on February 22,1986. The founder of the Genl George Rogers Clark Chapter was Col. Charles B. Schweizer. The namesake of our chapter signed his name, "Genl George Rogers Clark".  The chapter adopted his signature as the name of our chapter.  At the State Annual Meeting in Springfield on May  16, 2014, the GGRC Chapter was again recognized as the Chapter of the Year.

From the date of application approval, this Chapter has been one of the most successful with their events and programming of the Illinois Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. Consistently this chapter has advanced the goals of the Sons of the American Revolution which are the promotion of patriotism, history and  educational including:

• Perpetuating the memory of the Revolutionary War Patriot
• Promoting fellowship among their descendents
• Inspiring the community with a reverence for the principles of government founded by our Forefathers
• Encouraging historical research of the American Revolution
Preserving the records of Revolutionary War Patriots
• Marking the locations of the Revolutionary events and its soldiers
• Celebrating anniversaries of the Revolution
• Fostering true patriotism
• Maintaining and extending institutions of American freedom
• Carrying out the purposes of the preamble of the Constitution
• Following the injunctions of Washington’s farewell address to the American people.

The Chapter accomplishes the above by presenting or participating in events or programs as follows:

Annual Meeting — A dinner meeting recognizing achievements of members and election of officers bi-annually.
Color Guard appearances at our programs, in parades, and occasions of opportunity.
Eagle Scout Awards — recognition of Boy Scouts achieving the Eagle Scout rank among peers
Fall Trip — traveling to a destination of interest
Flag Award Ceremony — recognition of residents who properly and faithfully fly the American flag held at the Madison County Courthouse
Flag Day Ceremony - Patriotic celebration of the day held at various communities within chapter coverage counties.
Heroism Award - Recognition of person performing an act of heroism
Ladies Night — Dinner and socializing with spouses honoring the ladies of members
Law Enforcement Award — honoring an individual who has served in the field with distinction and devotion
Memorial Day Parade - participation in Alton, IL
Monthly luncheon meetings — project reporting and socializing
Outstanding Citizenship Ceremony — recognition of a student from each of the high schools in Madison County, IL for scholarship, extra curricular, and community service
Revolutionary War Patriot Ceremony -- honoring a Patriot at his gravesite often providing a stone marker
Spring Trip — Visit to a destination of interest (usually historical)
ROTC Awards - Presentation of a medal to the top achieving student in the program
Veteran Affairs — Providing support to veterans
Veteran Day Parade — Participation in Edwardsville, IL

Membership Qualifications

The Sons of the American Revolution is a lineage organization. Those eligible to join (any age) must be able to prove blood descent back to an ancestor who contributed in some way to the cause of American Independence. Contributions range from military service, providing supplies to the military, administering to the wounded, and other support roles to the cause. Meetings - Time and Location

The Genl George Rogers Clark Chapter meets on the third Wednesday of each month at the Loyal Order of the Moose, 7371 Marine Road (Rt 143 on the north side of Edwardsville). Bring Your Own Lunch begins at 11:30 AM with a meeting following.
